Breakthrough Anxiety Treatment Offers New Hope and An End to Suffering
Anxiety is a fact of life — particularly in modern-day, post-pandemic America. And anxiety can differ in degree. You may feel anxious about a work situation or when faced with an important life decision. Those are acute instances and may resolve once the problem resolves. But then there’s the anxiety that doesn’t go away. The kind that you’ve tried to treat many times, but still comes back. That type of chronic anxiety can make life unbearable.
According to the National Institutes of Health, 31% of Americans will have an anxiety disorder at some point in their lives. For this reason, there are many treatment options for anxiety disorder, from therapy to medications to various stress-management techniques. But what if you’ve tried all those things, yet still deal with constant anxiety? Is there any hope?
Yes. At Summit Brain Health, we offer a different approach to treating anxiety. It’s called MeRT or Magnetic e-Resonance Therapy. In essence, MeRT is non-invasive, drug-free, and lasting. And it’s been used successfully to treat anxiety, particularly when medications haven’t helped or have caused complex side effects.
MeRT Treatment for Anxiety in San Jose
MeRT uses a magnetic field to stimulate and balance brain function, guided by sophisticated imaging and diagnostics. This breakthrough treatment combines:
- Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS, an FDA-cleared therapy),
- Quantitative Electroencephalogram (qEEG), and
- Electrocardiogram (ECG/EKG)
to analyze and formulate treatments tailored to each patient’s unique brain pattern.
TMS uses magnetic fields that pass through the scalp from an electromagnetic coil. However, TMS is more of a one-size-fits-all approach because it only targets a single location in the brain with a single frequency.
MeRT, however, is a greatly improved process. When you suffer from anxiety, we can see specific markers in your qEEG reports. These markers show an imbalance in brainwave activity.
We then target your TMS treatment based on the qEEG results, customizing the frequency, location, and power for your unique situation. This, then, strengthens healthy brainwave activity to reduce anxiety symptoms.
MeRT is a highly personalized protocol for each patient, with the purpose of encouraging improved brain communication. This can lead to significant clinical improvements.*
* Results are based on active and strict observation of our regimens. Results may vary based on the individual user and are not guaranteed.

What is Generalized Anxiety Disorder?
The American Psychological Association (APA) defines anxiety as “an emotion characterized by feelings of tension, worried thoughts, and physical changes like increased blood pressure.” Although symptoms can come and go in many instances, that’s not the case with generalized anxiety disorder (GAD). On the contrary, people with GAD experience intense anxiety, worry, or nervousness about everyday life. And these thoughts don’t go away. As a result, this can create significant problems with daily social interactions, school, and work.
GAD affects 6.8 million adults, or 3.1% of the U.S. population, in any given year.
Anxiety Disorder Symptoms
While there are many different types of anxiety disorders, as a group can cause symptoms like:
- Restlessness and a feeling of being wound up or on-edge
- Nervousness
- Irritability
- Uncontrollable feelings of worry
- Difficulty concentrating
- Nausea
- Sweating
- Headaches
- Muscle tension
- Sleep difficulties, such as problems staying asleep, restlessness, or unsatisfying sleep
- Rapid heartbeat
Some people may experience panic attacks, which cause symptoms that mimic a heart attack, including chest pain and shortness of breath. As such, anxiety disorders are nothing to take lightly. If you think you might have an anxiety disorder, MeRT can provide new hope—and a new outlook on life.
Starting as a New Patient for Anxiety Treatment
Starting as a new patient at Summit Brain Health initially involves two appointments, both of which are about 45 minutes to an hour in length. Your first appointment is when your testing takes place, and the second appointment is when you have your consultation with Dr. Geraci.
Testing
At the first appointment, we will collect your new patient paperwork, and our neurotechnician will complete your qEEG and EKG testing. During this test, we place a cap on your head to measure the electrical activity in your brain and map out any areas not performing as they should. We also place a lead on your chest to capture the EKG data.
This testing is simple and painless, and we perform it right here in our office, then send the data to our scientists and clinical teams. They, along with Dr. Geraci, carefully analyze the test results to identify any dysregulation occurring in the brain. Based on their analysis, we develop a treatment plan customized to your specific condition and schedule your assessment period of treatment.
Consultation and Assessment
Your second appointment, after your qEEG/EKG, is a consultation with Dr. Geraci. He will be able to answer any questions that you may have and let you know more about what to expect with your treatment.
Treatment begins on a Monday and ends on a Friday each week. Typically, the entire treatment duration lasts for 6 weeks. We will repeat the qEEG after every 10 treatments to see how you are progressing. We will also monitor you for clinical changes. Dr. Geraci will go over your progress after each qEEG.
If you are a patient who will be traveling from out of town, we aim to schedule your qEEG/EKG on a Friday, then schedule your consultation and first treatment session for the following Monday.
For patients who prefer to have their first and second appointments before deciding to move forward with treatment, we are happy to work with you on this.
Insurance
We do not accept insurance at our clinic, nor do we file it on your behalf. We are happy to provide you with the appropriate paperwork at the end of your treatment period so that you can submit it to your insurance company to see if they will provide any reimbursement. Please note, however, that neither Medicare nor Medicaid offers any reimbursement coverage for MeRT treatment.
Currently, the equipment used with the MeRT process has been FDA-cleared for the treatment of Depression and OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder). Texas A&M University is now completing final testing and studies for FDA clearance for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion. However, clearance is likely an additional two years away.
We can provide you with a Super Bill at the end of your treatment that you can submit to your insurance company for any possible reimbursement.
