Brain Optimization can Mean a Return of Mental Capabilities
Optimization: An Act, Process, or Methodology of Making Something as Fully Perfect, Functional, or Effective as Possible
Living in a high-stress world has become the norm. And no matter your occupation or situation, chronic stress, health issues, and aging can all take a toll on your mind and body. Even if you are an overall healthy individual, daily life and all of its demands can burn you out. Additionally, as you age, you may not be as sharp mentally or feel as good physically as you used to, which can affect aspects of your health that can include:
- Burn out
- Lack of energy
- Decreased motivation
- Generalized anxiety
- Depression
- Poor concentration
- Feeling overwhelmed more easily
- Chronic fatigue
- Reduced ability to handle stress
- Brain fog
- Slow memory recall
- Worsening memory
- Anxiety
- Feeling like you’ve lost your competitive edge
- Feeling dull or numb
As has been noted, the natural process of aging can cause many of these types of issues. Then, when you add chronic stress and daily demands from work and family, you can easily become stretched to your limits.
Brain Optimization Can Help You Feel Like Your Old Self Again!
In order to help optimize your brain, Dr. Geraci has brought emerging, state-of-the-art technology to San Jose and surrounding areas. MeRT, which stands for Magnetic e (EEG/EKG) Resonance Therapy, is a non-invasive and non-pharmacological treatment that addresses dysregulation in the brain by neuromodulating the electrical signals. As a result, we can stimulate and reorganize brain function.
The equipment used in the MeRT technology has been FDA-cleared for depression and OCD (Obsessive-compulsive disorder). It is also used “off label” to treat brain conditions such as anxiety, traumatic brain injury (TBI)/concussion, post-traumatic stress disorder, autism, developmental disabilities, dementia, and after-effects of stroke. Because the benefits of MeRT are all-encompassing, this treatment can also successfully be used for brain optimization!
The following are some common benefits of MeRT treatment:
- Improved sleep (this is usually one of the first benefits realized)
- Increased relaxation
- Better focus and concentration/attention span
- Improved motivation
- Better mood
- Increased ability to cope with stress
- Increased attention span
- Improved clarity of thinking
- Able to complete projects and tasks faster
- Fewer distractions
- Better decision-making ability
- Improved emotional stability
- More energy
- Greater sociability
- Elevated sports performance for athletes
- Fewer cravings for alcohol or drugs
- Improved self-esteem and self-confidence
Using this powerful technology, we have treated CEOs, executives, athletes, and many other people who feel like they need a brain “tune-up.” We refer to this as Brain Optimization. In essence, MeRT treatment can help restore your zest for life and make you feel like your old self again!

Starting as a New Patient in San Jose
Because every person’s brain is as unique as their fingerprint, the way that their brain functions can be quite different than someone else. This process is highly individualized based on the qEEG findings and uses a targeted approach that hones in on the areas of the brain that are not functioning or communicating the way that they should. The individual results from your testing allow us to use this data to develop a targeted and customized approach in order to restore healthy brain function. The treatment, using specialized equipment, uses a magnet to gently stimulate distinct areas of the brain which can lead to improved communication and functionality and brain optimization.
Starting as a new patient at Summit Brain Health initially involves two appointments, both of which are about 45 minutes to an hour in length. Your first appointment is when your testing takes place, and the second appointment is when you have your consultation with Dr. Geraci.
Testing
At the first appointment, we will collect your new patient paperwork, and our neurotechnician will complete your qEEG and EKG testing. During this test, we place a cap on your head to measure the electrical activity in your brain and map out any areas not performing as they should. We also place a lead on your chest to capture the EKG data.
This testing is simple and painless, and we perform it right here in our office, then send the data to our scientists and clinical teams. They, along with Dr. Geraci, carefully analyze the test results to identify any dysregulation occurring in the brain. Then, based on their analysis, we develop a treatment plan customized to your specific condition and schedule your assessment period of treatment.
Consultation and Assessment
Your second appointment, after your qEEG/EKG, is a consultation with Dr. Geraci. He will be able to answer any questions that you may have and let you know more about what to expect during your assessment period of treatment. He will also go over your medical history, along with symptoms. We can get your treatment scheduled at that time.
Treatment occurs each week Monday through Friday. The qEEG is repeated after every 10 treatments and Dr. Geraci will go over the changes seen and discuss any clinical improvements with you.
The treatment sessions generally last 30 to 45 minutes each day.
If you are a patient who will be traveling from out of town, we aim to schedule your qEEG/EKG on a Friday, then schedule your consultation and first treatment session for the following Monday.
For patients who prefer to have their first and second appointments before deciding to move forward with treatment, we are happy to work with you on this.
Most conditions treated with MeRT provide noticeable and long-lasting results after six weeks of treatment. However, each patient is different, and results may vary.
Insurance Coverage and Payment Options
We do not accept insurance at our clinic, nor do we file it on your behalf. We are happy to provide you with the appropriate paperwork at the end of your treatment period so that you can submit it to your insurance company to see if they will provide any reimbursement. Please note, however, that neither Medicare nor Medicaid offer any reimbursement coverage for MeRT treatment.
Currently, the equipment used with the MeRT process has been FDA-cleared for the treatment of Depression and OCD (obsessive-compulsive disorder). Texas A&M University is now completing final testing and studies for FDA clearance for Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder and Traumatic Brain Injury/Concussion. However, clearance is likely an additional two years away.
