Our Initial Analysis is Key to the Success of Your MeRT Treatment at Summit Brain Health
The first step of your initial analysis is to understand the current state of your brain’s function and performance. We do this with a qEEG, or quantitative electroencephalogram.
Also known as brain mapping, the qEEG is a safe, painless, non-invasive diagnostic test. We simply place a cap on your head to measure your brainwave frequencies. This process is a precise way to identify areas in your brain with electrical dysfunction related to either a traumatic injury or a neurodegenerative process.
With the qEEG, we are measuring the current attention and metabolic state of your brain, which is constantly changing based on alertness, consciousness, and your neurological state. Unlike other diagnostic tests, such as an MRI or CT scan, the qEEG uses no radiation or electrical current. We are measuring the info coming from your brain, not sending anything into it.
At the same time as the qEEG, we take an electrocardiogram (EKG) to measure your brain-heart coherence. This provides a much more comprehensive understanding of your brain activity. Since every EEG is unique, we can tailor our approach to deliver the best possible results. To give you a better idea of what brain mapping can show, below are a series of EEG interpretive images.

After-Testing Analysis
Once we have the qEEG and EKG reports, we can analyze them to see how your brain functions and determine its state of neural synchronization. By assessing how well or poorly your neurons communicate with each other, we can better understand how you might be experiencing the world.
Then, we use this information to develop a personalized protocol of targeted TMS (transcranial magnetic stimulation) to encourage healthy brain communication. This process of initial testing and analysis is why MeRT has been so effective for so many people.
Starting as a New Patient for Your Initial Analysis and MeRT Treatment in the San Francisco Bay Area
Starting as a new patient at Summit Brain Health initially involves two appointments, both of which are about 45 minutes to an hour. Your first appointment is when your initial analysis takes place, and the second appointment is when you have your consultation.
Initial Analysis
At the first appointment, we will collect your new patient paperwork, and our neurotechnician will complete your qEEG and EKG testing as part of your initial analysis. This testing is simple and painless, and we perform it right here in our office, then send the data to our scientists and clinical teams. They, along with Dr. Geraci, carefully analyze the test results to identify any dysregulation occurring in the brain. Based on their analysis, we develop a treatment plan customized to your specific condition and schedule your assessment period of treatment.
Consultation and Treatment
Your second appointment, after your qEEG/EKG, is a consultation with Dr. Geraci. He will be able to answer any questions that you may have and let you know more about what to expect during your treatment. He will also go over your medical history, along with symptoms.
Treatment occurs Monday through Friday and each session lasts 30-45 minutes. A repeat qEEG is performed after every 10 treatments. Dr. Geraci will review the results of your updated qEEGs and also discuss any clinical changes.
If you are a patient who will be traveling from out of town, we aim to schedule your qEEG/EKG on a Friday, then schedule your consultation and first treatment session for the following Monday.
For patients who prefer to have their first and second appointments before deciding to move forward with treatment, we are happy to work with you on this.
Most conditions treated with MeRT provide noticeable and long-lasting results after six weeks of treatment. However, each patient is different, and results may vary.
